Law of Attraction – Mind Series
This article is about an organ which you have never heard of or been aware exists. It is the ‘pattern organ’ and is located in your mind. Since science has not yet located the ‘mind’ we have no idea how big it is or where it is, and so that means it could contain several other organs within itself, it is possible. Using the image of an organ will help you conquer fixed patterns or as they are also called, habits.
Like all other organs and limbs in your body, in time, the pattern organ gets hard and atrophies, and like any other organ, you get old and die if it atrophies totally. If it hardens to the point that it can still function, you can live, but limited in your capacities. The proof that this is true is in the old saying, ‘You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” This of course refers to humans who are fixed in their patterns.
Keeping your organs soft and flexible maintains youth, high energy, a sharp mind and much better physical, mental and emotional health.
The pattern organ is not meant to stay fixed on the same patterns for life. It has a very good use, to select good habits at the appropriate time in life and make sure we follow them. A pilot is trained in many habits so that he can function rapidly in case of an emergency. For example, if you are flying and see another plane coming head on, you only have a few seconds to react. In this situation the standard procedure is to turn sharply to the right and dive. If both pilots do the same thing, or even if only one does, a collision is avoided.
If you are ill and must take some medicine two or three times a day, it is very important to get in the habit of doing this so that you will not forget. As you see, the pattern organ is a life saver.
However, organs are obedient but not intelligent. The pattern organ will take on any pattern it is trained to have and give you that habit. It also does not think about a necessary habit that eventually becomes destructive or is no longer necessary and can be stopped. It must be trained to make that change, but we rarely do that.
Another danger of the pattern organ is that it can be trained by other people. In other words, if you are in a relationship and your partner cries easily or gets a headache whenever there is trouble brewing, you can learn the habit of never bringing up a certain subject. If you stay with that partner long enough to fix that pattern in you, you will have that same pattern in the next relationship. Then your next relationship will break up because the new partner says you never express yourself.
This is of course just one example and you should take the time to apply the principle to your life in any aspect, not just relationships. Look for anything you do, any pattern you have at work, at home, with friends, in your own personal lifestyle, seek out and destroy all limiting patterns.
The pattern organ is like eyesight. People usually get bad eyesight as they get older. This is because we do not do the same movements with our eyes as we get older and fixed in a job and so the muscles get stiff and the sight gets poor. Doctors are typical examples of poor eyesight, and that is due to years of reading and focusing on things that are very close, books or patients. They rarely alternate between looking close and very far. That lack of eye muscle movement in the change of distance and requirement to refocus constantly, eventually makes the eye muscles atrophy into being able to focus at only one distance. You can test this for yourself by doing some eye stretches daily and noticing how your eyesight improves in a week, if it has begun to weaken.
And so the pattern organ controlling our habits gets stiff through lack of changing patterns and ALL patterns about all sorts of things in our life keep us stuck in old habits.
If we continually break patterns and habits, then that organ remains supple, like a child. Since the organ is in our mind, that means the mind stays supple and young. As we loosen it up by changing and breaking patterns now, gradually, many patterns and habits that keep our life the way it is will be let go and life can be more flexible and open to new things and changes.
There are big changes in life that can occur by making simple changes. Take the analogy of a piece of sandstone. It is solid, like a rock, however when you grind it or rub it roughly, the sand starts to come off. A few grains at first, and then the whole rock crumbles releasing many other grains that were in the middle of the stone. Eventually the entire piece of what was once hard as a rock becomes a pile of soft sand that can be reformed into any shape you want. All this happens by simply rubbing away a few grains on the surface and keep going until you are in control of its shape.
So if you want any pattern to change, by changing some habits you may find that many other things change. Of course, if you know of the particular pattern you want to change, working on that directly is best. However, it is comforting to know that you can change a pattern which today seems overwhelming and one you cannot begin to work on, simply by changing other patterns. By the change of any habit you keep the pattern organ flexible so it does not have such a fixed hold and as it softens, the pattern which now controls you will be reduced to a grain of sand.
An exercise that is very good to help keep the pattern organ flexible is to make one new habit every month and break one habit you already have.
Of course, you do not revert at the end of the month, but just pick a new one to make and a new one to break, each month, forever.
The habit could be as simple as if you take sugar in your tea or coffee, to stop having sugar, or to change your habitual drink. It could be brushing your teeth using the other hand to hold the brush.
Any habit or pattern that you have, and have had for some time, can be done differently or, not at all. You could even call it a habit to avoid exercise or any task. Habits are not necessarily active, they could be avoidance or passive. There are people who cannot deal with the slightest conflict, so when they feel a conflict or attacking comment is brewing, they feel the need to go jogging or have to read a magazine or, the most common one, feel a headache coming on. They have the habit of avoiding conflicts, or perhaps doing the housework, or anything at all.
Some common habits to break are:
Using a certain phrase or word, ‘ya’ instead of ‘yes’.
Biting your fingernails.
Taping your foot or a pen or pencil rapidly while reading or working.
Reading while you eat a meal.
Your method of cleaning your house, each room in order.
Some habits that can be made are:
Regular exercise at a fixed time, physical or mental.
Reading something inspiring as the last thing to enter your mind just before sleeping.
The ‘Stop’ exercise. Setting 4 times a day at the exact time each day when you stop for 30 seconds to pinch your finger or count to 30 no matter what you are doing, at exactly that moment.
Starting the day with a warm cup of plain water as the first thing you eat or drink.
Making someone smile each day.
