Is the global fear and panic justified? Is the press presenting an honest report of the situation?
On March 6, CNBC news was speaking about the Coronavirus cases and briefly mentioned; ‘…there are over 100,000 cases. 65,000 have been fully cured and healed…’ I never heard the number of healed people again.
I have been trying to research the exact number of healed people, but it is virtually impossible to find that data. However, obviously with saying there are just over 3,000 deaths, clearly many people are fully recovered.
My accusation is that the media is deliberately intending to spread fear and panic by continuing to increase the number of cases by adding each new days reported cases to the total but neglecting to reduce the number by the people who are fully recovered.
Instead of the number going up each day, now being over 110,000, they should say the current cases today are 45,000, which is 110,000 less 65,000. Of course I am giving rough numbers but the point is clear.
This site has up to date accurate data including recovered cases. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ I would add one more statistic. When did each of the current cases get reported? I believe that if you take the number of current cases, they all started in less than 3 weeks ago. This means that people get the virus, and in a couple of weeks are healed, but then of course, new people get it, and will also be healed in a couple of weeks. This is the normal way that all flu or cold continues.
The number of cases should and most importantly, would NOT be increasing every day. There is no need to be even slightly concerned about Covid-19 more than the common flu.
In speaking with people globally, the fear of the virus is the panic of dying from it, but let’s look at the numbers reported for fatalities.
AGE & DEATH RATE
80+ years old 14.8%
70-79 years old 8.0%
60-69 years old 3.6%
50-59 years old 1.3%
40-49 years old 0.4%
30-39 years old 0.2%
20-29 years old 0.2%
10-19 years old 0.2%
0-9 years old no fatalities
I hate to quote or support the thoughts of Donald Trump, but he did make a very good point in his Twitter feed:
“So last year 37,000 Americans died from the common Flu. It averages between 27,000 and 70,000 per year. Nothing is shut down, life & the economy go on. At this moment there are 546 confirmed cases of CoronaVirus, with 22 deaths. Think about that!”
I came up with a valuable life lesson some years ago:
“Never take the advice of someone who will profit from your loss” David Samuel (Feel free to quote me)
Given this, we should question the motivations of anyone we turn to for advice on any topic, including our physical, mental and emotional health.
The topic of this article is the true motivations of the press so we can determine how seriously we should take what is reported. Let’s now make a motivational analysis of the media industry.
-
- The reason a business exists is to make a profit.
- The profit and success of a media company is by getting more readers and followers, thus more eyes looking at the advertisements they sell, which is their source of income.
- The goal of the reporters is to get more people to follow them as much as possible.
Humans love drama and feed on fear and panic. Truth is not a requirement of the press, but profit is.
The media lies to us all the time, we just don’t know it. As a teacher of common sense, I will pass on an ancient teaching of wisdom.
Trust nothing that you hear, and only half what you see.
Think about everything, analyze it, and determine how true it is, before you let yourself be led blindly into the analogous slaughterhouse.
There are many businesses making a fortune on peoples mis-fortune, and there are a lot of lies created to increase sales volumes. Use logic and common sense whenever you are being told anything, and learn to think like an independent individual because the truth is, we are all being led like farm animals by the ones who own the farm.
Oh, one more thing. If it was really that contagious, with there being cases all over the world, just like any flu, it would be in the millions now, not just a handful of people. Just a little thought, and it is clear that there is something wrong in the reporting.
