The greatest successes in business and life in general usually come from a decision based on a ‘feeling’. That gut instinct when you just know something is right, or wrong, is usually correct, but all too often, recalled only after we made the wrong decision.
When I began investing in the stock and Forex markets, I quickly realized the key; success depends almost entirely on your intuition. This applies equally to business as relationships, knowing the right thing to say, or when to keep your mouth shut!
The great successes, investor George Soros and entrepreneur Steve Jobs at Apple with the revolutionary iPhone, iPad and iTunes apps would admit that their success is largely based on an instinctual feeling of what the market will do. My past business success has always come down to being able to ‘smell’ the potential of a deal, and having a big nose was not the reason I could do it so well. Success in life boils down to knowing the right thing to do at each moment.
Even with relationships, we always get that feeling about what we should do or say, then promptly disregard it. We all have the ability to make the right decisions and get the right guidance, but we do not know how to listen to this natural faculty. This made me realize I had to devise a method to build up my intuition.
Some people think we are either born with intuition or not, I disagree. Having worked with hundreds of people to build their intuition, I can say without a doubt that we all have the capacity, but never exercise it. That is the problem, intuition is innate in everyone but it must be developed through specific exercises in order for it to become as clear as our normal sense of hearing.
The first step was to determine how to build intuition, but before that, I needed to know why we do not listen to it. The answer is; because of the intellect. I believe that the solution is always found in the problem, so I went step by step through all the aspects of the problem of having a poor intuition to determine a method to improve it.
Intuition is an emotional faculty. An inhibiting factor to our intuition is that the educational system and the business world demand people ‘think’ and use their brain. Although this makes perfect sense and is vital to a successful career, it is the double edge sword that also kills the emotional aspect and intuition.
The difference between the successful career person who works for a company and the entrepreneur who created it, is the degree to which each one uses their gut instinct over their intellectual mind. The reason is simple, the intellect can only function based on previously stored information, however the intuition draws from another source, true creativity or as Napoleon Hill calls it in his book; ‘Think and Grow Rich’, Infinite Intelligence. This is where the great geniuses of history have created that which did not previously exist.
It is clear, we must gain control over our mind to be able to choose when to use the intellect which calculates and searches through limited memory to find solutions working with previously experienced information, versus using intuition to discover new concepts. Both faculties are necessary, but one is severely lacking.
The funny part is that my, and probably your intuition works perfectly well, except we always hear it in hindsight. The solution hit me, ForeSight! We can develop foresight by strengthening our intuition.
There is a distinct difference that is vital to success in making that gut feeling strong enough to be able to follow. It is not just making the intuition stronger, but more importantly than that, it is in being able to hear it clearly. The problem lies in the intellect being so strong we cannot overcome it enough to listen to the small voice.
Having given the problem adequate thought and reflection, I determined that I needed a method by which to clearly separate the two voices which argue. Yes I admit I hear two voices arguing about what the right decision is, you may as well admit it too.
If you ask a spiritual type of person, they will say that meditation is the answer. I agree that will work, however who has the time and patience to sit for at least one or two hours every day without moving in a totally silent room? I do not think most people who lead an active life struggling to balance their needs, family and career are looking for something to take out an extra couple of hours each and every day.
And that is when I came up with the idea of ForeSight. I have all the latest gadgets because I am very active yet I still like to take a walk on the beach every day. This way I can sit outside and write articles like this on my Apple iPad, or make use of time in traffic or standing in lines, or enjoying a coffee with my iPhone, and still be productive. If I can relax by playing a game, and be productive simultaneously, there will be no guilt when I end my day.
I must share my definition of productive; Improving myself in any way. Thus, listening to my intuition, I came up with a way to clearly see or hear the two voices of intellect and intuition individually. Being able to define, or see each one independently of the other, I can have greater balance and be able to hear both equally well in the appropriate times.
When I tried to figure out how to put this idea into a useful form that I could share with the rest of the world, I thought about building it as a game for the Apple iPhone and iPad. This technology was the perfect medium for what I wanted to create – a fun game that could be played anywhere at any time, but a game which also served a very useful purpose. Working with one of my clients to write the code, we started MindDevelopments.com and built ForeSight which is now available on the iTunes store.
The point is that we can all have a stronger intuition. We just need to quiet the intellect, and as that voice gets quieter, the intuition gets louder. The way to do this is to get yourself to listen for the intuition. Putting this exercise in a game called ForeSight that anyone could easily play, have fun and gain the benefit of hours of meditation is a great solution to the active life which builds up our hidden talents of genius.
You can, and probably do, come up with many great ideas every day, but your intellect, and all those voices of people who say you will not amount to anything drowns out that little creative voice. I ask you to please build up your intuition, listen to the gut feeling, the first little voice that tells you what you should or should not do, and do not let greed or fear fill your mind to cover that voice up.
Sometimes the best thing to do is let something go. We know we should let it go, as our intuition is instructing, but we don’t because we ignore that small quiet voice and instead listen to the loud voice of the intellect. Or sometimes even worse, knowing you should speak to that stranger, but push down the thought and regret it the rest of your life. I hope that ForeSight will help many people overcome this handicap and find the great joy and repeated success in life that I and many other people have found.

I do not want to teach out of an egoistic need, but rather, because it’s fun to teach. It’s the same reason people like to have kids, because it’s fun to teach the kid things and see them learn, purely for the pleasure of being useful to another human being.
