We learn the habits of our manners, tastes in food, character, values, morals, etc. as we grow up. We go to sleep at a certain time, eat a meal at a certain time, the type of food considered appropriate for breakfast, lunch or dinner. To be humble or arrogant, selfish or generous, there is no end to what we are which is attributed to having learnt it somewhere since birth and made that a habit.
These habits reside in our mind. Our mind is feeding us mental food. ‘We’, ‘Me’ and ‘I’, for the purpose of this talk, is that which is conscious and interacting during the course of our waking hours as opposed to being unconscious or asleep.
Our mind is that which receives, stores, and provides all thoughts. Each moment of our life is preceded by a thought. Before you speak, as quick as you think it comes out of your mouth, thought has preceded the words. Any action, as quick as it comes, is preceded by a thought, it just happens so quickly that we do not notice, unless we have put in the efforts to train our abilities to see thought before action.
The mind is like a water jug, it is just a container, which holds anything that is put into it. Our habits are what are in the jug. The mind then pours out its contents for our consciousness to feed on as we have the taste or desire based on the situation.
If you are in a remote country and are blindfolded, someone is feeding you some thing, and you eat, would you not like to know what that is? You do not know what good or bad food you are eating, or what it is at all.
We must take off the blindfold to see who is feeding us and what they are feeding us, so that we can choose the healthier nourishment. We can choose what habits are placed into our mind, which will then feed us our life.
You choose the life you will live based on the habits you choose to develop which are then stored in your mind and becomes the food of your daily life.
Every event is like a thing placed in a giant refrigerator. When you are hungry you go to the refrigerator and take out some food, something you feel like eating at the moment out of the large collection of food in the fridge.
If you are in a dark forest and it reminds you of a horror film, then you will go to the fridge and take out some memory that relates to this, perhaps from a film you have watched with giant spiders or snakes.
All is MIND, yet I am not my mind. The mind is open to the world and universe and all events and things. It can be filled with rubbish or wisdom, and that is what it will feed you.
Who decides what information is put in your mind? That is the most important question. If you develop your understanding of the machine of your mind and soul, how the mechanism works, you can gain control over what goes into and comes out of your mind. But if you are not aware of how your mind and totality of your being, including your soul works, then any rubbish will be filling your mind because you will not have any discrimination as to the quality of what is being put in.
Either you develop the ability and strength to choose or, by default whatever is around you and you are exposed to by the events you encounter or things you read or see on TV etc. will fill your mind and then feed your consciousness what you will think which will effect what you do.
This explains why we do and say so many things that we know are bad for us or the situation, or hurtful to another person, yet cannot stop ourselves from doing it.
The mind is constantly pouring out information. You cannot exist for one second without a thought of some sort. The mind is constantly pouring out thoughts and that is what you react to at every moment. It is up to you to choose what you put in your mind because the mind will give you the thoughts that are within it. Your choice is what fills the mind rather than what comes out of it.
We can compare the totality of our being to the cellular phone system. Each handset is independent, not physically connected to any other handset, yet from virtually anywhere in the world we can instantly communicate with someone at virtually any other part of the world. The totality of our being is the same, there are an immense number of parts, handsets, that are not all connected physically, yet are connected to each other by virtue of being within one giant system.
They all affect each other, and interact in some way that other parts have no knowledge of. For example, your heart beats, blood flows, mind jumps to all sorts of imaginations, yet you are not consciously aware of any of it.
When you are on the phone, you do not know who else is also on the phone in the entire cellular telephone network. Your being is the same, a vast conglomeration of parts which are interacting with each other giving you every thought and reaction to your conscious experience of every waking moment, basically that which you call ‘you’.
We cannot understand the totality of the cellular phone system, as likewise we cannot understand the totality of our being. However with education, we can understand the cellular system, and equally the correct and appropriate training is required to understand the totality of our being. Only then can we fix the problems and improve its efficiency and operation. It is a matter of appropriate education and training delivered by a qualified instructor.
I feed my mind by thinking, my mind feeds me thoughts, which I think about and react to.
I form habits, my habits control my actions and thoughts.
My habits tell my mind how it should think and act, my mind observes life and forms habits.
