This article will continue from the previous one entitled, Becoming An Exceptional Human Being.
Here, we will go into more detail about the concept of ‘evaporating the water of our personality’.
Follow these instructions as if you are an alien from another planet who has no idea what humans are like and is here doing a scientific analysis of this bizarre new species.
Follow these instructions and you will succeed. The first step is to look at children from as many countries, social classes and cultures as you can. If you cannot travel to see them personally, you can watch documentaries meant to raise awareness of poverty and disadvantaged kids in Africa, Asia, South America, and of course western countries. You will see that the kids have no idea they are at any ‘disadvantage’ in any way.
Looking at children, you will see that as toddlers, they have no idea about their life conditions and will put anything into their mouth or examine whatever it is, be that gold or rubbish, with the same curiosity. It is only the parents who tell them that this is good and that is bad. They will play with the box the gift came in just as much as the gift.
Continue this observation until you have come to a deep realization that there is no difference in the being that lives within the body. At that age, children do not even understand what their body is, meaning; Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Asian, Caucasian, Black, Brown, or Green for that matter.
You will have achieved true understanding when you find yourself interacting with adults and automatically jumping to the thoughts that this person, whatever they are like, could have been any other type of person depending on where they grew up, in the slums or penthouse.
In time, you will be able to see the difference between the ‘water’ and the ‘flavouring’ in every person you meet, including yourself.
While you have been doing this observation and study of children, you should also do the simple but practical exercise of taking coffee, a soft drink, or any flavoured liquid, putting it into a pot or kettle in a way that you can capture the steam, and boil it. Do this enough to capture enough steam that when it cools, you have enough to drink, or put in a water quality test.
These two exercises combined show you the reality that once mixed, it appears that the water has become something different, yet it is physically and very simply possible to remove the water from the flavouring. You can even do this with urine and have pure water to drink.
Humans are not a very smart creature. Sorry if this disappoints you, but I am sure you noticed this already. Humans need to have new concepts drummed into them through touch, taste, and personal example. That is how children learn.
In my course on parenting, I make a simple point that parents surprisingly did not think about. When you get frustrated with your young child, when they do something you told them not to do and in frustration you yell at them saying; “Can’t you understand what I am saying?”, you are exhibiting how stupid you are, because no, a four year old cannot understand intellectually explained concepts. Any four year old would tell you that, if they could explain it in an intellectual way that an adult can comprehend.
Humans do not learn by instructions, they learn by personal experience. So although you may think you know about desalinization or reverse osmosis, you really have to do the process yourself and drink that water, to have the truth of certainty that makes it a part of your reality and not just conceptual.
The Flavouring
What is the ‘flavouring’ of your personality? This is your culture, religion, country, accent, language, taste in food, style of living, everything about you that makes you you. The exercise to prove all you are is just flavouring is to study people from as many countries and cultures as you can to discover the differences in taste. For example, my mother taught me when I was young that sushi is disgusting. How can anyone eat raw fish. And up to my early 20’s, I believed that and would never eat sushi. As I progressed with these exercises I am teaching you here, I thought about how many people in Japan eat sushi daily and so I tried, and now it is my favourite meal. I removed one flavour about what is good or bad to eat.
What about camping, sleeping outside under the stars in a desert? Dangerous? Snakes, spiders, or a scorpion that ended up in my sleeping bag. Yes, they are all there, but so many people do it so even though you think you should only sleep in a house with a bed raised above the floor, that is just a flavouring of your opinions.
Learn about other cultures and religions with their different views of dietary requirements. Is Sunday or Saturday the holy day? Do you cover your head or remove your hat when entering a church or temple? Look at the people who follow those ways of living. Then look at their little children, and discover by objective observation, they are not real, you are not real.
That is the truth about who you are. You are NOT REAL! You are merely a product of your circumstances. This has to be made very clear to you through these specific observations about how adults came to be the person they are. Meet a Chinese from a village in China, then meet a Chinese born and raised in a western country. They may look alike, but are so different that there is no similarity at all.
By now, your mind will have opened to the truth that the essential YOU is not really who you think you are and that you are merely a cup of flavoured water.
Now the hard part.
Create a detailed description of your personality. You should make this list with your own thoughts, but you must also interview everyone who knows you to get their description of your personalty. People close to you, family and friends and also people you work with, co-workers, employees and employers.
You are not allowed to say one word while you are interviewing them. You are only allowed to write down everything they say, without exception, disputing, or editing in any way. You may repeat the interview with the same person the next day, as they may need time to think of more things.
Do not use the excuse to avoid this exercise by thinking people will not be honest in their replies. Just do it anyways and you will get something, if not everything, that is useful. It is important that you do not tell any of them what anyone else said so it does not influence their response.
When you have at least five but preferably more than 10 people’s descriptions, compile the lists so you get one list with all your traits. Sort the list based on how many people said the same thing. If everyone said you are stingy, that goes on top, and if one person said you are arrogant, that goes on the bottom. Divide the list into two columns, good and bad traits.
You now have a clear ingredients list of the flavourings of your personality, the qualities of your character, good and bad. Now you are ready to begin the process of ‘Evaporating the Water of Your Personality.’
Work to remove all your negative traits, one after the other, until in the end you only have sweet flavours. Work on each character trait, until you reach the point where you are free of any self-centredness or negative qualities.
Yes, this appears to be a very long and massive task, but it actually is not that big a deal. It does not take any time at all out of your day to observe yourself once you know what you are looking for. You are not really who you think you are, so it isn’t personal and should not trigger self-pity, which if it does, is a sour flavour to remove, because it is flavours added to you, instead of really you.
Empty your heart and mind of all your mundane preoccupations and you will see that actually, the things that worry and bother you are not real at all. They are just bitter and sour flavours that have been put into you as you grew up.
The bottom line is, you are not really you. You are pure water, as you were when you were born. Everything that makes who you are, was added to that vessel called your mind, and has contaminated it.
I admit that this process may take months until you see any changes, and years to be a significant change, but really, is making widgets that important? Are the things you do with your life that significant? Can anything compare to a caterpillar turning into a butterfly?
When you ask people what is negative about you now, and you ask them again in a few years, you will see how very worthwhile this process of evaporation really is.
